Natalia Almada

She received a master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She obtained the MacArthur, Guggenheim, USA Artists and Alpert grants. Her work has been shown at more than 30 film screenings and festivals around the world and has participated in four editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). She received a Special Mention at the 3rd FICM for her feature-length documentary Al otro lado (2005), which also won the award for Best Documentary at the 1st Puerto Rico International Film Fest & Convention (PRIFFC) and the Cultural Voice Award at the 6th New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF), among others. She participated in the 7th FICM with her feature-length documentary El General (2009), which won the Best Director Award at the 25th Sundance Film Festival and the Third Coral Award at the 31st International Festival of New Latin American Film in Havana, Cuba. At the 9th FICM, she participated with her feature-length documentary El velador (2011), which was shown at the 43rd Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes, and won, among other prizes, the award for Best Documentary at the 13th International Film Festival Bratislava; the SICA Award and a Special Mention for the FEISAL Award at the 26th Mar del Plata International Film Festival, Argentina; and the award for Best Cinematography at the 14th Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM in French), Canada. Her first feature film Everything Else (2005) is part of the Official Selection of the 14th FICM.
