Gian Cassini

He studied audiovisual languages at the Visual Arts Department of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL, in Spanish), Mexico, where he also taught short film production, documentary production and video production. In addition, he has taken various workshops on cinematography, including a course on film directing with Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel, in 2005, and a documentary screenwriting workshop with Spanish director Ricardo Íscar, in 2012. His work has been shown at more than 10 film screenings and festivals around the world. He participated, among other festivals, in the 5th UNAM International Gay Film Festival in Mexico City, and the 14th MIX Mexico: Festival of Sexual Diversity in Film and Video, with his short fiction film Panoramas (2009); which received a Special Mention at the 5th Monterrey International Film Festival (FIC Monterrey). He competed in the Official Selection at the 9th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) with his short fiction film A rapel (2011), which also participated in the 33rd International Festival of New Latin American Film, Havana, Cuba; the Vienna Queer Cinema International Film Festival, Identities 2013, Austria; and the 23rd Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), Australia, among others. He has also worked as a producer in several films, including: El pacto (2011) by Pablo Alejandro Gómez Canales and Ballad of the Living Dead (2014), a short film that won the Nuevo León Film Production grant (PROMOCINE) in 2011, and the 7th National Competition for Short Film Postproduction, launched by the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE). He is currently working on the production of his first feature length documentary Comala, which won the IMCINE award to begin its development at the 7th International Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City (DocsDF, in Spanish)
