He studied communication at the Iberoamerican University (UIA, in Spanish), Mexico City. His work has participated in more than 100 festivals around the world, including two editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). He participated in the 1st FICM with his short fiction film Silencio profundo (2003), which won 19 international awards, including Best Cinematography at the 17th Interfilm Berlin International Film Festival, Germany; the Golden India Catalina Award for Best Short Film at the 44th Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI, in Spanish), Colombia; and Best Short Film at the 18th American Film Institute’s AFI FEST, Los Angeles. His feature film Al otro lado (2005) won, among other awards, the Audience Award at the 54th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg (IFFMH), Germany, and three jury awards for Best Picture: at the 13th Cinesul Iberoamerican Festival of Film and Video, Río de Janeiro, Brazil; at the 2nd Latin American Film Festival in Paris, France; and at the 3rd Bristol Latino Film Festival, England. His feature La otra familia (2010) premiered at the 8th FICM and won the Audience Award at the 28th Chicago Latino Film Festival and the Global Vision Award at the 22nd Cinequest Film Festival, California, among others.
