He studied cinematography at the CUEC-UNAM film school in Mexico City and economy at the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS). He took seminars on composition, text analysis and drama with the Mexican writer, playwright, theater director and screenwriter Hugo Argüelles from 1998 to 2000. He received a grant from the State Fund for Culture and the Arts (FECA), Baja California Sur, in the category of screenwriting in 2001, 2003 and 2006. His work has been presented at more than 30 film screenings and festivals throughout the world. He participated in the 20th Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) and the 1st Latin American Panorama of University Cinema, Brazil, among other festivals, with his documentary short film El pardito (2005), for which he won the Best Short Film Award at the 2nd Valladolid International University Cinema Festival, Spain. His short fiction film Olas de Verano (2007) was part of the Official Selection of the 5th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM); the 30th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, France; the 55th San Sebastián International Film Festival, Spain; and the FICA – Algarve International Film Festival, Portugal, among others. His first feature film Los otros californios (2011) won, among other awards, Best Mexican Documentary and the Feisal Award for Best First Film at the 5thInternational Documentary Film Festival of Mexico City (DocsDF); Best Documentary in the Best Artistic Works Competition of 2010, Canal 22, Mexico; and three awards at the 13th Crystal Screen Festival, Mexico: Best Photography, Best Original Music and Best Audio Design.
