Luis Enrique Villegas

He studied human communication at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) in Mexico City. He is currently a professor in audiovisual production at the Universidad Latina de América (UNLA), Morelia, and since 1996 has given various courses on cinematography for children with his project Juguemos a Grabar, in Michoacán. He has participated in two editions of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). In the 1st FICM, he presented his short film Manuel Guízar, actor (2002). He received funding from the Support Program for Municipal and Community Cultures (PACMYC) of the Regional Unity of Popular and Indigenous Cultures of Michoacán to make a series of five short films in video, Hilos de sueños (2006), about artisan children in the State of Michoacán. The series won the Principios 2006 Prize, granted  by the Council of Communication, Mexico. His documentary short film Cocuchas (2006), spoken in the Purépecha language, won First Place and the Grand Prize “Bachiller Álvaro Gálvez y Fuentes” at the 1st Iberoamerican Festival of Education TV and Video, as well as a Special Recognition for the Audiovisual Preservation of Popular Traditions at the 8th Silver Screen Festival, Mexico. At the 5th FICM, he presented his documentary video Juguemos a grabar (continuación) and competed with his short film De regreso (2007), which won First Place in the National Competition of Radiophonic and Television Production 2007, convened by the Network of Education and Cultural Radio and Television Stations of Mexico; First Place at the 3rd Indigenous Film and Video Festival of Michoacán (FECVI); and a Special Mention at the 9th Crystal Screen Festival, Mexico City. This work belongs to the cultural heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
